Last year, NatureSweet submitted a request to rezone part of its greenhouse complex to allow cannabis cultivation. The rezoning would allow a stable anchor use, which would then spur research, seed development and crop cultivation in the remaining greenhouses. It would also help to retain NatureSweet jobs in our community. Over the past 30 years, the Bonita complex has been a major contributor to our children's education, Eastern Arizona College programs of higher learning, and government services in the form of property taxes. Economic studies have shown that the greenhouse employees spend most of their income in Graham County, resulting in significant sales tax revenues to our local governments as well. BAYACAN CRAHAM COUNTY Most importantly, in my view we continue to export our children. In so many cases, our children are forced to relocate to metropolitan areas seeking jobs with career ladders and wages sufficient to support a family. Unlike Phoenix/Tucson areas, opportunities such as this rarely come our way. Your vote of "YES" on Prop 401 will give our children another option to work and raise a family in Graham County.
