Biles Memorial Scholarship Now Available For Morenci Seniors Graduating seniors in the Class of 2023, get your application in for the newest scholarship at Morenci High School, the Shirley E. Biles Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship recipient will received $2,000 towards their education. How to apply: Please write a 500 word essay with the following theme - How have you made a positive impact in your life so far and how do you plan to make a positive impact in the future? Send your essay and a sealed letter of recommendation from an employer or teacher to Mr. Joe Garcia at the MHS Counselors Office. About Shirley Biles Shirley Biles graduated from Morenci High School in 1954. She loved her school and her hometown of Morenci. After graduation, she moved to Phoenix for a year and went to the Lamson Business College. While returning home for the holidays, she fell in love with Don Biles at the annual Christmas Dance. They made Morenci their home and raised four Morenci High School Graduates - Kathy, Kristy, Donna and Stephen. She had a short career as a secretary in the Morenci School systems in the 1980s. She died in 2022 at the age of 85. She lived with her son Stephen for the last 22 years of her life. She dealt with considerable adversity all throughout her life, but she always accepted every challenge with grit, perseverance and grace. She never quit smiling and loved the small but important things in life like giving her dogs a kiss everyday and taking a ride to the Dairy Queen. She would have loved the idea of giving back to her alma mater and helping a student reach their dreams! Students: Remember to be like Shirley when everything seems to be going against you never give up and never stop smiling. Even when it seems impossible, never quit! Shirley E.
